アメリカ大リーグ、マリナーズの岩隈久志投手（34）が8月12日、本拠地シアトルでのオリオールズ戦でノーヒットノーラン（無安打無得点試合）を達成した。日本選手では2度記録した野茂英雄に次いで2人目となる。47NEWSなどが伝えた。
今季１１試合目の先発登板だった岩隈は、日米両プロ球界を通じて自身初の偉業達成となった。１１６球を投げ、３四球７三振。直球、変化球ともに切れがあり、低めへの制球が抜群だった。４勝目（２敗）を挙げ、試合は３―０だった。

岩隈は試合後、地元テレビ局のインタビューに「凄い声援が後押ししてくれた。（意識したのは）最終回のマウンドに上がってから。とにかく一人一人でいこうと思っていました」と答えた。
今季の大リーグでのノーヒットノーランは、7月25日にフィリーズのハメルズが達成して以来4人目となる。
