トランプ氏が当選確実、クリントン氏を破る【アメリカ大統領選】
アメリカ大統領選挙が11月8日(現地)に投開票され、APなど現地メディアの報道によると、共和党候補のドナルド・トランプ氏(70)が民主党候補のヒラリー・クリントン氏(69)を破り、当選確実となった。不動産王トランプ氏は、公職経験のないまま大統領となる。

トランプ氏は2015年6月の立候補の際に「メキシコ人はドラッグ、犯罪を持ち込む。彼らはレイプ魔だ」と暴言を吐き、国境に巨大な壁を建設すると約束した。不法移民の強制送還やイスラム教徒の入国禁止など、差別的と受け止められる政策を次々と提案した。反発も受けたが、アメリカで進む「ポリティカル・コレクトネス(差別を助長しない表現)」運動が行き過ぎていると感じている一部の国民を引きつけた。
トランプ氏は、アメリカメディアから「無知、ペテン師」などと評され、人種差別・女性蔑視の発言で批判された。計3回のテレビ討論会でも劣勢を跳ね返せなかったが、それでもなお、根強い支持を受けた。日本など外国が核兵器を持つことを容認する発言もした。
毎日新聞は「政治家としての経験のなさは、格差拡大を放置してきた既存の政治家に怒る国民を、かえって味方につける武器となった。選挙資金の大口献金者が少ないという不利も『誰からも影響力を受けない』と宣伝材料に替えた」と報じた。
「メーク・アメリカ・グレート・アゲイン(アメリカ国を再び偉大に)」という選挙スローガンで、現状に不満を持つ民主党員や無党派層にも支持を広げた。自身を古い体制と戦う「アウトサイダー」と位置づける一方、30年間政界の中心にいたクリントン候補に「体制派」とレッテルを貼り、クリントン氏の「不正」非難を繰り返した。
投票直前、支持率でわずかにリードしていたクリントン氏の国務長官時代の「私用メール問題」が再び問題となり、同氏を猛追。追加捜査を行っていた連邦捜査局(FBI)が刑事訴追を見送る方針を明らかにしたが、トランプ氏が逆転した。
トランプ氏はニューヨーク生まれ。ペンシルベニア大卒。コトバンクなどによると、全米にホテルやカジノ、ゴルフ場などを持つ不動産王として知られる。1994年にアジアや欧州の投資家と共同でニューヨークのエンパイア・ステートビルを買収。破産4回。公職の経験はない。総資産約37億ドル(約3885億円)という。
