【黒人少年射殺】「やましいことはない」白人警官が口を開く

――それであなたは彼が走り出して、(不明瞭)、あなたに向かって来たというのですね。

そのとき私はもう一度自分自身の心に聞きました。この男を撃ってもいいのか?わかります?法的にできるのか?と。そしてその質問に出した答えは、撃たなければいけないということでした。もし撃たなければ、この男は私に辿り着いたら私を殺すだろうと。

――十数メートル離れていたのに?

いったんその方向に来始めて止まってなかったら、いつ止まるのでしょうか?

ウィルソン氏は、ブラウンさんを銃撃したとき、初めて拳銃を使ったという。ステファノプロス氏は、違う形で対処する他の方法はなかったのかと質問すると、ウィルソン氏は「なかった」と回答した。

ウィルソン氏はブラウンさんへの対処の仕方について「やましい気持ちはない」と言っている。

「頭から離れることはないと思います。常に起こりうることですから」とウィルソン氏は言う。

「やましいと思わないのは、私は自分の仕事を正しく全うしたからです」

ウィルソン氏は、8月9日にミズーリ州で18歳の丸腰の黒人少年であったブラウンさんを射殺して以来、公に出ないようにしていた。ウィルソン氏の弁護士団は大陪審の決定を受けて24日夜に声明を発表し、 ウィルソン氏の支持者に感謝の意を述べ、これ以上「本件に関する説明は適切な場所にて実施することにし、メディアを通しては行わない」と述べている。
