【黒人少年射殺】「やましいことはない」白人警官が口を開く

ウィルソン氏は彼が拳銃を発射する前にブラウンさんが手を上げたことは「絶対にあり得ない」と言っているが、目撃者の何人かは手を挙げていたと供述している。ウィルソン氏は、ブラウンさんが彼に向かって来るのを見た時、「自分のところに辿り着いたら彼は私を殺すだろう」と思ったと言っている。

――絶対あり得ないと？

絶対あり得ません。

――それであなたは彼が走り出して、（不明瞭）、あなたに向かって来たというのですね。

はい。

――で？

そのとき私はもう一度自分自身の心に聞きました。この男を撃ってもいいのか？わかります？法的にできるのか？と。そしてその質問に出した答えは、撃たなければいけないということでした。もし撃たなければ、この男は私に辿り着いたら私を殺すだろうと。

――十数メートル離れていたのに？

いったんその方向に来始めて止まってなかったら、いつ止まるのでしょうか？

ウィルソン氏は、ブラウンさんを銃撃したとき、初めて拳銃を使ったという。ステファノプロス氏は、違う形で対処する他の方法はなかったのかと質問すると、ウィルソン氏は「なかった」と回答した。

ウィルソン氏はブラウンさんへの対処の仕方について「やましい気持ちはない」と言っている。

「頭から離れることはないと思います。常に起こりうることですから」とウィルソン氏は言う。

「やましいと思わないのは、私は自分の仕事を正しく全うしたからです」

ウィルソン氏は、8月9日にミズーリ州で18歳の丸腰の黒人少年であったブラウンさんを射殺して以来、公に出ないようにしていた。ウィルソン氏の弁護士団は大陪審の決定を受けて24日夜に声明を発表し、 ウィルソン氏の支持者に感謝の意を述べ、これ以上「本件に関する説明は適切な場所にて実施することにし、メディアを通しては行わない」と述べている。
