「iPhone SE」元ネタは、29年前に発売されたパソコンだった

Appleのスマートフォンの新作「iPhone SE」の名前の由来を、フィリップ・シラー上級副社長が明かした。

Appleのスマートフォンの新作「iPhone SE」の名前の由来を、フィリップ・シラー上級副社長が明かした。アメリカの経済誌「Fortune」の3月21日の記事によると、SEは特別版を意味するSpecial Editionの略で、この2文字は1987年に発売されたAppleのパソコン「Macinotsh SE」に敬意を払ったという。

■Macinotsh SEとは?

週刊アスキーによると、Macinotsh SEは、初代Macinotshの発売から3年後に発売された画面一体型のPCだ。初代Macの開発の指揮を執っていたスティーブ・ジョブズはすでにアップルを離れており、社内の開発体制が大きく変化する中で設計されたものだった。ドイツのフロッグデザイン社が手がけた、細いスリットを多用したデザインが特徴的だ。

ちなみにこのときの「SE」は、「System Expansion」の略で、拡張スロットが装備されたことを示していた。
