冬季オリンピックの全種目の中でもスケルトンは最も怖い競技かもしれない。ソリに乗って、心臓をわしづかみにされそうなターンがある氷上コースを滑走する。
この競技で競い合う選手が、見た目が恐ろしいヘルメットを選ぶことは何の不思議もない。カナダのスケルトン・チームが「夢に出てきそうな恐ろしい」ヘルメットで話題を集め、他の多くの国がそれをマネした。
ただ、恐ろしいデザインを採用したからといって空気力学上のメリットはない。その選手を凄そうに見せる効果はあるかもしれないが。
