ハミルトンさんと夫のアダム・ダークスさんは、6月1日にトバイアス君を迎えた。そして今週、ソーシャルメディアを通じて世界にトバイアス君を紹介した。

「彼の名前は、曽祖父にちなんでトバイアスと名づけます。その意味は '神の徳' です」と、ハミルトンさんはインスタグラム上の投稿で説明した。「アダムと私は、息子に夢中です。彼と人生を共有できることにワクワクしています!」

夫婦は2月に動画で妊娠を報告していた。当時、ハミルトンさんは妊娠4カ月だった。

「私はたまに、自分の腕が1本であることを忘れてしまいます」と、ハミルトンさんは報告の中で話していた。「(子育てにあたって)腕1本ではとても困難なこともあるでしょう。でも、私は1本の腕で赤ちゃんの世話をする方法を模索しなくてはなりません…創意工夫しなくてはなりませんね」

25才のハミルトンさんは、妊娠6カ月まで泳ぎとサーフィンを続けていた。さらには、ハワイ・オアフ島のバンザイ・パイプラインで行われた世界サーフィンリーグのウィメンズ・パイプ・インビテーショナルにも参加していた。このバンザイ・パイプラインは、世界でも最も激しい波がくる場所の1つだ。

赤ちゃんのトバイアス君が、海に出る日はそう遠くないかも知れない。
