アメリカでは、大学のある町はほぼすべて、週末になると大騒ぎだ。彼らの様子を見ていると、こんなにビールを飲むのはアメリカ人しかいない、と思うことだろう。
ところが、世界のほかの国に比べれば、アメリカは、ビール消費量世界一の座はほど遠いことがわかった。「1人当たり消費量」で王座を手にしたのは、ビールマイスターの国ベルギーでも、オクトーバーフェスト（日本語版記事）で大騒ぎするドイツでもない。みごと栄誉に輝いたのはチェコ共和国だ。
チェコの人々は、年間で1人あたり149リットル（約315パイント）のビールをがぶ飲みしている（2位はオーストリア、3位はドイツ。なお、日本は38位で、1人当たりの年間消費量は43.5リットル。チェコは日本の3.4倍にあたる）。
以下のインタラクティブ地球儀は、「世界各国の1人あたりのビール消費量」上位50カ国をランク付けしたものだ。購買活動に関する情報を提供するRetale社が制作した。
もとになったデータは、日本のビールメーカー「キリン」が2012年にまとめた統計だ（キリンのリリースによれば、同社は1975年からこの統計を開始している。なお、1人あたりでなく国別で見ると、トップは中国で、2位がアメリカ、3位がブラジル。日本は世界7位）

世界で一番ビールを飲んでいるのはどこだろう？
