1996年に発売され、大ヒットしたスパイス・ガールズの「Wannabe」。世界中にガールパワーを教えてくれたこの曲が、女性をエンパワーする曲として帰ってきた。

貧困や気候変動などの問題に取り組む「プロジェクト・エブリワン」が、男女平等や教育問題の解決を目指す国連のキャンペーン「グローバル・ゴール」の一環として、Wannabeのミュージックビデオをアレンジした動画を作ったのだ。

動画に出演しているのは、ボリウッド女優のジャクリーン・フェルナンデスや、イギリスのヒップホップグループM.O、12歳のダンサー、テイラー・ハタラを含む、世界中の女性アーティストだ。全員が、スパイスガールズに負けないくらいエネルギーに満ち、クールなダンスを披露している。

歌詞はワナビーと同じだが、リメイク版の女性たちが訴える「ホントにホントに欲しいもの」は、「少女たちへの暴力を終わらせること」「教育を受けること」「児童婚を止めること」「平等な賃金」だ。

YouTubeに投稿された動画のコメント欄には「2016年、私たちが力を会わせて、私たちがホントにホントに何を欲しいかを世界のリーダーに伝えるチャンスです。あなたが声をあげれば、9月の国連の会議でリーダーたちに伝えます」と書かれている。

スパイス・ガールズのメンバーだったビクトリア・ベッカムは、素晴らしい動画だとガーディアン紙に話している。「Wannabeがリリースされた20年後に、スパイス・ガールズがあらゆる世代をエンパワーするために使われるなんて本当に嬉しい」と、ベッカムは述べた。

グローバル・ゴールとプロジェクト・エブリワンは「#WhatIReallyReallyWant」というハッシュタグを使って、世界中で男女平等を実現するために、あなたの思いや夢をシェアして欲しいと呼びかけている。

動画のディレクター、 MJ・ディレイニーはガーディアン紙に「これは現代のガールパワーです。スパイス・ガールズは全く違う女性が集まって、絆を強め、強くなりました。リメイク版でも『違い』を大切にしながら、世界中の女性全員が望む『ホントにホントに欲しいものがある』というメッセージを伝えています」と述べている。
