アメリカ・ハワイ島のキラウエア火山で、大規模な噴火活動が続いている。流れ出したマグマが住宅が飲み込み、2000人以上の住民が避難を強いられているほか、少なくとも1人がけがした時事ドットコムなどが報じた。

噴火は5月3日に始まり、17日には爆発的な噴火が発生。火山灰が上空9100メートルにまで吹き上がった。流れ出たマグマが海に到達するなど、被害は収まる気配を見せていない。

キラウエア火山を30年にわたって観察を続けている「Tropical Vison Video」は、マグマが島を飲み込む様子を動画で伝えている。
