天皇陛下が好物の駅弁が話題だ。dot.の8月21日の記事によると、東京駅などで販売されているチキン弁当だという。
この駅弁を販売する日本レストランエンタプライズ（NRE）のホームページによると、チキン弁当は1964年の新幹線開業の年に発売が開始されたロングセラー商品。チキンライスや唐揚げがセットで価格は850円だ。東京駅のほか、上野駅、新宿駅、大宮駅などで購入できる。
経済評論家の森永卓郎氏が、2013年9月8日放送の「2020五輪で東京はこう変わる！大胆予測SPマル秘公開」（テレビ朝日系）で紹介した内容によると、チキン弁当は東京オリンピック開催に合わせて、外国人向けに考案された弁当だという。新幹線で働くコック向けに、まかない用としてつくられた弁当が元になった。
JR東日本 駅弁味の陣の公式Facebookはこの弁当について「『東京駅弁といえばチキン駅弁』の評価もあるほど」の「レジェンド駅弁」と紹介。「年齢を問わず楽しめる懐かしい家庭料理のような味」と評している。
