「マッサマンカレー」をご存知ですか？なんでも世界一の料理として、ここ数年注目を集めているらしいのです。まもなくやってくる暑い夏といえば、「カレー」。おうちで世界一の味を堪能しちゃいましょう！！

■マッサマンカレーって、どんなカレー？？

カレーの本場といえばインドですが、マッサマンカレーは近年缶詰などでも人気を集めているタイの南部を代表するカレーのこと。別名「イスラムのカレー」とも呼ばれるカレーは、かつてイスラム系の商人によってインドや中近東から持ち込まれた様々なスパイスが入ってるのが特徴です。その名もマッサンマン・ペースト（トウガラシ、コリアンダーシード、クミンシード、ニンニク、クローブなど）をココナッツミルクで煮込んだカレーは、辛いというよりは甘くマイルドな味がするそうです。具材は鶏肉・じゃがいも・ピーナッツが一般的で、隠し味に蜂蜜でこってり感、タリマンドという果実で酸味をプラスするのが本場タイ風だとか。

そのマッサマンカレーは、2011年にアメリカの人気情報サイト「CNN GO.com」で「世界で最もおいしい50種類の食べ物」の第1位に選ばれたことで評判を呼び始めました。昨年には「無印良品」がレトルトカレーを売り出し、今夏には「デニーズ」や「ホテル イースト21東京」が夏の新メニューとして採用するなど、じわじわと注目度もアップしているようです。

■家庭で世界一のカレーを作って、味わおう！！

調理する時にマッサマンカレーペーストを一から作るとなると大変ですが、安心してください。輸入食材店や通販などで簡単に入手することができます。具材も鶏肉・じゃがいも・ピーナッツをベースに、お好みの肉・野菜を加えるなど自由に楽しんでみてくださいね。
