2014年ミス・ユニバース日本代表・辻恵子さんの出場する世界大会「2014 ミス・ユニバース世界大会」の壮行式が12月17日、都内で行われた。
辻さんは、アメリカ・フロリダ州で2015年1月25日に開催される世界大会に向けて、ウォーキングや語学などの特訓を積んできたという。本番で着用する戦国時代の甲冑（かっちゅう）をイメージしたコスチューム姿を披露し「日本女性の代表として、その名に恥じないよう誇りを持って頑張っていきたい」と意気込みを語った。

このコスチュームを選んだ理由については、「女性の強さを表現したかった」などと語ったという。
これまでの代表者は着物が多かったが「自分は空手有段者なので女性の強さを表現したかった」と、甲冑（かっちゅう）とやりのデザインを選択。「すごく満足しています。税関が通るか？ 通してもらいます」。

この個性的な衣装については、Twitter上で「凄く残念」「素敵」など賛否両論の声が上がっている。
