文化庁は4月18日、本来の意味とは異なる使われ方をしている慣用句などの本来の使い方を解説する動画「ことば食堂へようこそ！」（全20話）をインターネット上に公開した。
47NEWSによると、動画では、2000年から2012年度にかけて文化庁が実施した「国語に関する世論調査」の調査結果を基に、間違えた人が多かった20個を選び、来年2月まで2個ずつ取り上げるという。
第一話で取り上げられた言葉は「役不足」。ある会社の広報部の上司と部下の会話を例に言葉の間違った使い方を紹介した。
「役不足」の本来の意味は、本人の力量に対して役目が軽すぎることを言う。2006年度と2012年度の調査では半数以上が「役不足」という言葉を間違った意味で理解していたという。
動画では、このような誤解がなぜ広まったのか、その理由も解説している。
