アフリカのギニアからブルキナファソに向かっていた飛行機の中で、妊娠中の乗客が突然陣痛を訴えた。
飛行機は上空約1万2800メートルを飛行中で、すぐには着陸できない。急を要する事態で出産を助けたのは、客室乗務員だったとBBCが報じた。

陣痛が始まったのは、ターキッシュエアラインズ（トルコ航空）の飛行機に乗っていた妊娠28週のお母さん。「出産を助けるために、スタッフがすぐに対応しました」と同航空会社はBBCに伝えている。
無事に赤ちゃんが産まれた後、毛布にくるまれた赤ちゃんと、満面の笑顔で赤ちゃんを抱く客室乗務員たちの様子が、同航空会社のSNSに投稿された。
クルーに囲まれたお母さんが横になって、生まれたばかりの赤ちゃんを抱いている写真もある。

目的地のブルキナファソに到着すると、赤ちゃんとお母さんは首都ワガドゥグーにある病院に運ばれた。母子ともに健康と、NBCが伝えている。
医師が同乗していたのか、もしくは客室乗務員は普段から機内での出産に備えて特別なトレーニングを受けているのか、ハフィントンポストUS版がターキッシュエアラインズに問い合わせているが、まだ返事はない。
ターキッシュエアラインズのウェブサイトには、妊娠28週までの妊婦は医者の同意書がなくても同社の飛行機に搭乗できる、と書かれている（28〜35週の場合、医師の同意書が必要）。
これまでにも飛行中に赤ちゃんが産まれたことはある。2016年8月には、フィリピンのセブパシフィック航空で女の子が産まれ、100万マイルをプレゼントされた。
今回ターキッシュエアラインズで産まれた赤ちゃんにもマイルがプレゼントがされるかどうかはまだ不明だが、なにはともあれ無事に産まれてよかった。
