ヒトラーの水彩画、競売へ　イギリス紙が酷評した作品には何が描かれていたのか？

アドルフ・ヒトラーが描いた水彩画が、3月26日、アメリカのオークションに出品される。1912年、24〜25歳頃のヒトラーがウィーンで描いたもので、オークションの開始価格は3万ドル（約360万円）になる予定。競売元のネイト・D・サンダースが発表した。

ヒトラーは幼い頃から画家を目指しており、1905〜20年ごろにかけて、約2000点の作品を描いたとされる。1907〜08年、ウィーン美術アカデミーの入学試験に失敗。しかし、ウィーンのユダヤ人美術商だったサミュエル・モルゲンシュテルンはヒトラーの才能を見出し、作品数点をウィーンの人々に販売した。

今回競売にかけられる絵は、横34.3センチ、縦27.3センチの大きさで、右下に「A.Hitler.」と署名がある。ヒトラーの作品は風景や建築物をモチーフにしたものが多いなか、草木をテーマにした作品は珍しいとされる。イギリス・テレグラフ紙の美術評論家、アラスター・スマート氏は「この作品には芸術的な価値は、全くない」と酷評したが、一方で、ヒトラーが花を描いた珍しさにも言及した。

なお、ヒトラーが描いたとされる作品がオークションに掛けられた例には、2014年11月に13万ユーロ（当時約1900万円）で落札された水彩画「ミュンヘンの戸籍役場」がある。この時の落札予想価格は5万ユーロ（当時約734万円）だった。
