従業員の性別適合手術（「性転換手術」に代わる言葉）を福利厚生でカバーする企業に、新たにNetflixとFacebookが加わった。
両社はトランスジェンダーのための医療保険プランを備えている企業を集めた「企業平等指数」に2015年初めてリスト入りした。この指数はワシントンD.C.を拠点に活動する人権団体ヒューマン・ライツ・キャンペーン （HRC）が発表している。HRCによれば、性別適合手術に健康保険を適用する企業は、2006年の49社から2015年の418社と、大幅に増加しており、これまでにゴールドマン・サックスやAppleなどがリスト入りしている。

HRCはウェブサイトでこのように述べている。
「企業平等指数調査の一環としてHRC基金は2014年から毎年、誰もが平等に利用できるトランスジェンダーの医療保険を、企業が提供しているか調査してきました。調査によれば、大企業から中小企業まで様々な企業がトランスジェンダーの健康保険適用除外を取りやめ、性転換や性別適合に関係するメンタルヘルスカウンセリングや、ホルモン治療、医療機関の受診、外科手術、その他治療に健康保険を適用できるよう、診療ガイドラインを変更しています」
これはLGBTコミュニティーにとっては朗報だ。しかし専門家の中には、実際には少数の従業員しか制度を利用しておらず、企業はほとんど金銭的負担をしないまま自社が性的マイノリティーにオープンであるように見せている、という声もある。
イェール大学マネジメントスクールで人材について研究するジェームス・バーロン教授は「こういった平等な制度を設けることで、企業は大きなコストを支払わずに自社をPRできる」とブルームバーグに語っている。
カリフォルニア大学で性自認に関する法律と政策を研究するジョディ・ハーマン氏も、通常1年間に性別適合手術の保険適用を受ける従業員は1〜2万人にほぼ1人で、平均的な費用は、2万9929ドル（約360万円）だとブルームバーグに話している。
