ガンビアの「居座り」大統領、退陣表明 赤道ギニア亡命で流血回避

「ガンビアは平和だ。この平和を守らなければいけない」

西アフリカ・ガンビアで、大統領選に敗北したにもかかわらず辞任を拒否して居座り続けたヤヒヤ・アブドゥル=アズィーズ・ジェムス・ジュンクング・ジャメ大統領(ヤヒヤ・ジャメ、51)が1月21日、退陣を表明した。

BBCによると、ガンビアでは2016年12月大統領選があり、22年の長期独裁を敷いていた現職のジャメ氏は野党候補のアダマ・バロウ氏に敗北した。しかし、「深刻で受け入れがたい異常な事態が選挙の過程で起こった」として17日に非常事態宣言を発令し、18日に任期が切れた後も大統領職に居座り続けた。

CNNによると、西アフリカ諸国は政権交代のために軍事介入をする構えをみせ、セネガル軍が国境を越えるなどジャメ氏に圧力をかけていた。20日にはギニアのアルファ・コンデ大統領、モーリタニアのムハマド・オウルド・アブドゥルアジズ大統領がジャメ氏と会談し、バロウ氏に大統領職を譲るように迫っていた。

ジャメ氏は声明で「アフリカ、そして世界各地で紛争が続いているが、ガンビアは平和だ。この平和を守らなければいけない」と、辞任する理由を説明した。「1人のイスラム教徒として、そして愛国者として、流血の事態は避けなければならない。良心に従い、この偉大な国の権力を手放すことにした」

ジャメ氏は21日、飛行機でガンビアを出国し、亡命先の赤道ギニアに向かった。

ロイター通信によると、新大統領となったバロウ氏は、「我が国から逃れなければならない政治的環境に置かれていた人たち全てに、今、家に戻れる自由があると伝えたい」と述べた。
