リオデジャネイロ・オリンピック最終日の8月21日、男子マラソンが行われ、カンボジア代表として初出場したタレントの猫ひろし（39）が完走した。タイムは2時間45分55秒で、140人中139位だった。共同通信などが報じた。優勝したのはエリウド・キプチョゲ（ケニア）。日本勢は、佐々木悟の16位が最高だった。

猫ひろしはマラソンで五輪に出場するために、2011年にカンボジア国籍を取得。2012年のロンドン五輪で同国代表に選出されたが、国際陸連に参加資格を満たしていないと判断されて出場できず、今回が初出場となった。
スポニチによると、猫ひろしはゴールで両手を上げ、お得意の「にゃー」のポーズをした。ゴール後には、「最高でした。悔いはないです。カンボジア語では“ミャー”なんですけどね」と喜びのコメント。43歳で迎える東京五輪に向けては「チャンスがあるんだったらやりますよ。でも（年齢的には）猫だったら3回ぐらい死んでますんで」とジョーク交じりに語ったという。
