「スター・トレック」シリーズのMr.スポック役で一世を風靡したレナード・ニモイが2月27日、83歳で亡くなった。
彼は生前、TwitterにはいつもLLAP（長寿と繁栄を）という、「スター・トレック」での挨拶を署名していた。ニモイの最期のツイートは、私たちに人生の知恵を教えてくれるかのようだ。
人生は庭のようなもの。完璧な瞬間もある。だけどそれは続かない。それは思い出だけに。
ニモイの妻、スーザン・ベイ・ニモイは死因を末期の慢性閉塞性肺疾患（COPD）だと述べた。ニモイ自身は喫煙によるものだと考え、30年くらい前に禁煙したという。
ニモイは1年前、COPDの診断を受けたことに関して次のようにツイートした。
私は30年前に禁煙した。すぐにではないが、私はCOPDにかかった。この爺の言うことを聞くといい。今すぐやめろ!! LLAP（長寿と繁栄を）
彼は自身が受けた診断を利用した。他の人たちに喫煙が長期間にわたって体にダメージを与えることを警告するいい機会にしたのだ。
喫煙者たちよ、どうか理解してほしい。肺の病気の診断を受けてから禁煙しても遅すぎる。この爺の言うことを聞くといい。自分の教訓から学べ。今すぐやめてほしい。LLAP（長寿と繁栄を）
亡くなるちょうど1カ月前、ニモイは再び喫煙への後悔をツイートした。
