イギリス王室は11月27日、ウィリアム王子（32）が2015年2月下旬から3月初めにかけて、日本と中国を訪問すると発表した。ウィリアム王子が日本を訪問するのは初めて。47NEWSによると、妊娠中のキャサリン妃（32）は同行しないという。
最初に訪れる日本では、英政府の要請を受けて日英の関係強化や文化交流に貢献し、野生生物の違法取引阻止の活動も行うという。
複数の日英関係筋によると、訪日は２月２７日～３月１日の日程を軸に調整している。王子は滞在中、天皇陛下と面会するほか、首相とも会談するとみられる。
