不正が発覚したフェムケ・ファン・デン・ドリエッシュ選手

自転車レースの世界選手権で、トップレベルの国際大会では史上初の不正が発覚した。超小型のモーターを隠した自転車を使っていたというのだ。人間の力を競う大会で、実は電動アシスト付き自転車が使われていたという事件に世界が震撼している。

BBCなどによると、不正が発覚したのは国際自転車競技連合(UCI)が主催する「シクロクロス世界選手権」だった。シクロクロスは障害物が設置されたオフロードを自転車で周回する競技だ。1月30日にベルギーのゾルダーで開かれた女子23歳以下の部に、同地のフェムケ・ファン・デン・ドリエッシュ選手(19)が出場した。ヨーロッパとベルギーのチャンピオンである彼女は、最終ラップで「技術的なトラブル」から棄権して歩いてゴールした後に、UCIが自転車を押収して調査を行った。

高周波の電波が出ていることコンピューターで探知したため、サドルの支柱を取り去った。その結果、クランク軸の近くのボトムブラケットに超小型モーターが仕込まれているのが発見されたという。

UCIのブライアン・クックソン会長は30日、「技術的な不正があったことは、全くもって明らかだ。隠しモーターがあったということに尽きる。UCIはズルをしない選手を守る。我々は今回、不正をしようとする選手へのメッセージを送ったのだ。『そんなことをしても、我々が開発した技術によって探知されて、罰せられるだろう』とね」と語った。

■不正発覚の選手「私の自転車ではない」

これに対して、不正が発覚したドリエッシュ選手は「私の自転車ではない。ズルはしていない」と涙を流しながら反論している。AFP通信によると、彼女はベルギーのテレビ局「スポルザ」に対して、「私の自転車ではありません。友人のもので、よく似ているんです。友人は土曜日(30日)にコースを回って、トラックに自転車を置きました。メカニックはそれが私のものだと思って、きれいにして、私のレースのために準備したんです」と説明。「私は何も悪いことはしていない」と強調した。

とはいえペナルティは厳しい。不正が認められれば、選手には失格や6カ月の出場停止処分、そして最高20万スイスフラン(約2400万円)の罰金が科されることになる。

自転車競技で電動アシスト自転車が使われているという疑惑は、以前からあった。2010年のツール・デ・フランドルで優勝したファビアン・カンチェッラーラ(スイス)があまりにも力強い加速を見せたため、自転車にモーターが隠されているのではないかという指摘が出ていた
