ユーロ2016の闘いを終えて、アイスランド代表の選手たちは、何千人ものファンのもとへ近寄り、集団でゆっくりと拍手をし、「ハッ！」と声を上げながら、耳をつんざくようなクライマックスに向かう。

この恒例の儀式は、別名「サンダークラップ」「バイキング・クラップ」といい、スコットランドが起源ではないかという説もある。北欧の小さな島国アイスランドのスターたちが、トーナメントで期待を超える活躍をするのに合わせて、この数週間でウェブ上に拡散した。
7月3日、開催国フランスとの準々決勝の前に、1万人超のアイスランド人が、中央レイキャビクに集結し、この熱狂的なバイキングコールで、チームを応援した。
試合は2-5で敗れたものの、4日、アイスランドに帰国したチームは、とどろくような「おかえりなさい」の喝采を受け、その場で熱烈なファンたちが、再びあの恒例の儀式を披露した。
