自動車レースF1の今季開幕戦、オーストラリア・グランプリ（GP）は3月20日、メルボルンで決勝があり、メルセデスのニコ・ロズベルグ（ドイツ）が優勝を飾った。
レース中、マクラーレン・ホンダのフェルナンド・アロンソ（スペイン）が、ハースのエステバン・グティエレス（メキシコ）と高速で接触した。アロンソのマシンは1回転してバリアにクラッシュ、マシンは大破した。アロンソにけがはなく、自力でマシンから立ち去った。
レースは総合3連覇を目指すルイス・ハミルトン（イギリス、メルセデス）が2位となり、セバスチャン・フェテル（ドイツ、フェラーリ）が3位に入った。
