アメリカの女優で、国連難民高等弁務官事務所（UNHCR）特使のアンジェリーナ・ジョリーさんが4月24日、国連安全保障理事会で開かれた内戦下のシリアの人道状況をめぐる会合に出席、シリア難民への支援を訴えた。毎日新聞などが報じた。
「シリア難民たちはここに来ることができない。だから、あなたたちが会いに行ってください」と述べ、各国大使らに現場の悲惨さを直接確認するよう要請。シリア問題で効果的な対応ができない安保理を痛烈に批判した。
国連によると、５年目に突入したシリア内戦では２２万人以上が死亡した他、７６０万人以上が国内避難民となり、４００万人近くが難民化。ジョリーさんはこれまで１１度、周辺国のシリア難民キャンプを訪問。娘を性奴隷として武装勢力に奪われた母親や、空爆で母親が死亡し、５人の兄弟の面倒を見る１１歳の少女の例を紹介した。

ジョリーさんは「安保理は国際平和と安全に対する脅威に対処する力を持っているのに、その力は行使されていない」とも述べた。
