8月が、間も無く終わる。東京・浅草で8月27日に行われた恒例の「浅草サンバカーニバル」では、赤や黄色などの華麗な衣装に長い羽根をつけた約5000人のダンサーたちが、情熱的なダンスを披露しながら浅草の通りを練り歩いた。あいにくの雨にもかかわらず、熱気に包まれた沿道からは拍手と大きな歓声がわいた。
浅草サンバカーニバルは今年で35回目。2016年の夏はサンバの本場・リオデジャネイロでオリンピックが開かれたが、その五輪の興奮も冷めやらぬ中での開催となった。2015年より約1万人多い約48万人（主催者発表）の見物客が詰めかけた。
