通常のゲームで行われる国歌斉唱や「セブンス・イニング・ストレッチ」（7回裏のホームチーム攻撃時に立ち上がって「私を野球に連れてって」を歌って体を伸ばすイベント）はいつもどおり行われた。
オリオールズのバック・ショウォルター監督はAP通信に「すべてはこの街にとって最善となること、そして私たちの安全のためだ」と語った。「最悪なのはファンが被害に遭うことだ。安全策をとらなければならない」
試合は8-2でオリオールズがホワイトソックスを下した。ホームチームのアドバンテージがどれだけあったかは言いづらい。なぜなら……そう、誰も彼らを応援してなかったからだ。
