リオデジャネイロ・オリンピックは8月17日（日本時間18日）、ビーチバレー女子の決勝が行われ、ルートビヒ、ワルケンホルスト組（ドイツ）が、地元ブラジルのアガタ、バルバラ組を2―0で下して金メダルを獲得した。3位決定戦はウォルシュ、ロス組（アメリカ）がラリーサ、タリタ組（ブラジル）を破り、銅メダルを獲得した。
