ボーイング社は、最新鋭の旅客機・ボーイング787-9ドリームライナーが、ロケットのようにほぼ垂直に離陸する動画を公開した。同社によると、6月15日に開幕するパリ航空ショーのリハーサルで、アメリカ・ワシントン州のモーゼス湖周辺を飛んでいる。飛行時期は明らかにされていない。

離陸して上昇するときの角度はとても急に見えるが、実際には「どこから見るかによって、離陸の角度がとても急に見えることがある。まるで直角に発進しているように見えることもある」と、ボーイング767のパイロット、パトリック・スミス氏はCNNに語っている
