ビル・クリントン元大統領（現在68歳）は11月12日（米国時間）、ジョージ・W・ブッシュ前大統領（現在68歳）の新著『41』を読んでいる自身の写真をTwitterにアップした。

写真には、こんなメッセージが添えられている。「#43（43代の大統領であるジョージ・W・ブッシュ氏のこと）から、#41についての本をいただいた。感動的なトリビュートだ！ #HowAreYouSTILLNotOnTwitter（なんでまだTwitterやってないの） #PresidentialTweeters（ツイッタラーの大統領）」

アメリカでは一般に、第41代のブッシュ大統領を「Bush 41」、その子供である第43代のブッシュ大統領を「Bush 43」といって区別することが多い。

『41』で描かれた父親のほうのブッシュ氏（現在90歳）は2013年12月からTwitterをやっているものの、息子のほうのブッシュ氏はどこにも見あたらない――Twitterでは、ということだが。

しかし、負けずぎらいの「43代」は、前任者の42代に完璧な球を返した。Instagramを使い、「#HowAreYouSTILLNotOnInstagram」（なんでまだInstagramやってないの）というハッシュタグつきで、ツイートを再投稿したのだ。

「ありがとう、42代！ お仲間である41代について書いた本、気に入ってもらえますように。#HowAreYouSTILLNotOnInstagram」（なんでまだInstagramやってないの） #PresidentialGrammers （インスタグラマーの大統領）」

笑いを誘うTwitter戦争に元政治家が参戦するのは、これがはじめてではない。ハロウィンの直前には、元国務長官のマデレーン・オルブライト氏が、コメディアンのコナン・オブライエン氏の仮装のアイディアに対して愉快な返答を送っている。ふたりの応酬は、こちらの記事で読むことができる。
