『ラグタイム』や『ビリー・バスゲイト』など、現代アメリカ文学の大物として知られる知られる作家のE.L.ドクトロウが7月21日に亡くなった。84歳。ニューヨーク・タイムズなどが報じた。

AP通信によると、息子のリチャード・ドクトロウ氏が21日、ニューヨークの病院で、肺がんによる合併症で亡くなったことを認めた。

ドクトロウは1986年に小説『紐育万国博覧会』で全米図書賞、1976年に『ラグタイム』で、1989年に『ビリー・バスゲイト』、2005年に『The March』で全米批評家協会賞を受賞した。
