女性ボーカルグループ「SPEED」のメンバーで、31万票余りを獲得して当選した自民党の今井絵理子氏(32)は、この日のために新調した黒のスーツで登院した。多くの報道陣に囲まれた今井氏は、「1票1票の重みをひしひしと感じており、感謝でいっぱいだ。政治家としては、真っ白なキャンバスなので、1人1人の夢や希望をきちんと描いていきたい」と述べた

報道陣から沖縄の基地問題について問われると、沖縄民謡の「てぃんさぐぬ花」の歌詞の意味を引き合いに「互いに助け合い支え合っていく世の中をつくっていきたい。沖縄だけではなく日本全体として助け合って支え合っていくというのが今後課題になる」と話した。今井氏は7月10日の参院選投開票日に、池上彰氏から在日アメリカ軍基地問題について問われ「現状が分からなかった」と返答し、物議を醸していた。

また今井氏は報道陣に「I LOVE YOU」を意味する3本指を立てる手話を披露し、「手話そのものは世界共通ではないのですが、この『I LOVE YOU』だけは世界共通なんです」と語った

初登院し、国会議事堂前で取材に応じる民進党の杉尾秀哉参議院議員

長野選挙区選出で、元TBS記者・ニュースキャスターの民進党・杉尾秀哉氏(58)は、「これまでは取材する側の立場だったので、不思議な感覚」とした上で、「昔の参院は一家言ある議員が多かったが、最近は小粒になり存在感が薄れている。『参院に杉尾あり』と言われないといけない」と語った

東京選挙区選出で元ビーチバレー選手の自民党・朝日健太郎氏(40)は「自分の人生で初めて国会に来ました。今日から私の新しい人生が始まるという気持ち。新人の気持ちを忘れずに、諸先輩方の指導を受けながらしっかりやっていきたい」と意気込みを述べた

産経ニュースによると、この日の登院「一番乗り」は、おおさか維新の会の石井苗子氏(62)で、午前7時40分ごろに正門前に姿を見せた。
