アメリカ・ニューヨーク市中心部のマンハッタンで9月17日午後8時半(日本時間18日午前9時半)ごろに、爆発があった。ビルの窓が吹っ飛び、少なくとも29人が負傷した。そのうち1人は重傷だという。ハフポストUS版が報じた。

爆発が起きたのはマンハッタンの南西部の「チェルシー」地区。若者に人気で、日本人の観光客も多い地域だ。警察当局は周辺を封鎖し、原因を調査している。警察当局は爆発は「意図的なもの」としながらも、「テロとの関係を示す証拠はない」と発表した。負傷者は命に別条はないという。

ハフポストUS版に勤務するメグ・ロバートソンは、爆発現場の近くに住んでいる。彼女は「巨大な雷が落ちたみたいで、街が揺れました。全ての窓は閉じてあったけど、すごく大きな音が聞こえたんです」と話した。

ABCニュースによると17日午前には、川を挟んで隣接するニュージャージー州でも爆発事件があった。予定されていたマラソン大会の会場付近で、道路脇のゴミ箱に仕掛けられた爆弾が爆発した。けが人はなかったが、大会は中止された。警察当局によると、ニューヨークの爆発との関連は現時点で不明だという。
