F1グランプリが行われる開催国は何かと注目を集めるものだが、今回のマレーシアGPはいつもとは事情が異なるようだ。理由は、マレーシア航空370便がクアラルンプールから中国に向かう途中で乗員乗客239人とともに消息を絶った問題による。
今月28～30日に開催予定のマレーシアGPに向け、１週間前に現地入りしたF1チームのスクーデリア・フェラーリ。チームは首都クアラルンプールにあるサイバービュー・ホテルを予約していたが、実はこのホテルには370便に乗っていた行方不明者の家族が数十人（主に中国から駆けつけた家族）滞在していた。そこでホテル側はフェラーリチームの予約を優先させ、搭乗者の安否に関する情報を待って滞在中だった家族らをホテルから退去させたという。
事態は、フェラーリにもF1にも良い印象を与えない展開になってしまった。しかし、チームは航空機が行方不明になるずっと以前にホテルを予約していた（F1界のトップ、バーニー・エクレストン氏が言及）とのこと。また、ホテル側としても、予約客を断るわけにもいかず、結果、行方不明者の家族が他の宿泊施設に移ることになったというもので、誰も責めることができない状況としか言いようがないだろう。
『CNN』によると、24日（現地時間）、マレーシアのナジブ首相は、消息を絶ったマレーシア航空の旅客機はインド洋南部に墜落したとの結論に至ったと発表した。行方不明者の安否を心からお祈りしたい。
