自動車レース最高峰のF1シリーズに参戦しているフェラーリは4月14日、ステファノ・ドメニカリ氏が成績不振の責任を取ってF1チーム代表を辞任したことを発表した。
ドメニカリ氏は「プロとしての生活を送る上で重要な時期が来た。私は責任を取る」と話しているという。
フェラーリはドライバー部門で15度、チーム部門で16度の優勝を誇る名門だが、今季は3戦を終えた時点で、チーム部門5位と低迷している。ドメニカリ氏の後任には、フェラーリ北アメリカの社長兼CEOであるマルコ・マティアッチ氏が就任する見込みだ。
ただし、名ドライバーのミハエル・シューマッハ氏と組んでフェラーリの黄金時代を築いたロス・ブラウン氏が復帰する可能性も以前からささやかれている。ブラウン氏は、2013年末にメルセデスチームの代表を辞任している。トップニュースは昨年11月に以下のように書いていた。
フェラーリは、2007年にドライバーズタイトルを、2008年にコンストラクターズタイトルを獲得しているが、それ以降チャンピオンに輝いていない。そんな中、フェラーリの黄金時代を支えたブラウンを引き抜くのではないかという新しいうわさがにわかに盛り上がりを見せている。
22日（金）にイギリスの『Sky Sports（スカイ・スポーツ）』から、ほかの人物にチーム代表の座を譲って全体を監督する職に移る用意があるかと聞かれたドメニカリは、次のように答えた。「もちろんだ」
「それが最善の方法であることが分かれば、明日にでもそうするよ。100パーセント確かだ」
