大規模な洪水被害を受け、ドイツのメルケル首相は4日、オーストリア国境に近い南東部パッサウを視察。被災地へ1億ユーロの緊急支援を実施することを明らかにした。

ドナウ川など市内で合流する3つの河川が氾濫したパッサウの被害状況を時事通信が次のように報じている。

通常は5メートルのドナウ川の水位は、500年ぶりとなる12.9メートルまで上昇。一部で水が建物の2階まで達したほか、停電や断水が続き、住民は避難生活を強いられている。

BBCが4日(現地時間)報じた記事によると、ドイツ南部、東部ではエルベ川などが氾濫し洪水の恐れがあるとして、警戒を強めている。また、政府が非常事態宣言をしたチェコでは、首都プラハの地下鉄は運行を停止、普段は観光客で賑わうカレル橋も閉鎖された。西部で約3000人が避難しているという。

豪雨は5月30日ごろから始まり、チェコやオーストリアのほか、ドイツ、スロバキア、ハンガリーなど被害は広範囲に及んだ。ロイター通信によると、洪水の被害が特に大きいのはドナウ川沿い。ドイツを流れるドナウ川とライン川の一部と、オーストラリアを通るドナウ川全域では、穀物や石炭などを運ぶ船舶の運航が中断されたという。

中欧では2002年にも大規模な豪雨、洪水があった。
