Google、アンコール遺跡をストリートビュー対応に

Googleストリートビューに9万ものアンコールワット写真が加わることとなった。ストリートビュー化されたのは100箇所にのぼり、日の出の時間に撮影された幻想的な写真で構成されている。

Googleストリートビューに9万ものアンコールワット写真が加わることとなった。ストリートビュー化されたのは100箇所にのぼり、日の出の時間に撮影された幻想的な写真で構成されている。見ることが出来るようになった場所はバイヨン寺院、ラーマーヤナに描かれたランカー島の戦いを描いた遺跡などだ。撮影には通常のストリートビュー・カーはもちろん、バックパック型カメラのトレッカーも使って行われた。

写真はGoogle歴史アーカイブにも登録されている。アンコールやクメールのことを知るのに良い教材となるだろう。12世紀の彫刻や、中世のアンコールにおける生活を再現したイラスト、あるいは20世紀中頃に撮られた写真などが登録されている。

Google-Trekkerブログ記事にて、GoogleマップのグループプロダクトマネージャーであるManik Guptaは次のように述べている。

アンコール遺跡の美しさや壮大さを感じていただけることと思います。しかしさおれだけでなく、テクノロジーが文化遺産を後世に残すためにできることなども感じていただければと思っています。
