プロ野球の現役最年長野手で大リーグでも活躍したロッテの井口資仁・内野手が、今季限りで現役を引退する意向を固めた。

プロ野球の現役最年長野手で大リーグでも活躍したロッテの井口資仁・内野手(42)が、今季限りで現役を引退する意向を固めた。NHKニュースなどが6月20日に一斉に報じた。

井口は東京都出身。東京・国学院久我山高から青学大を経て、1997年にドラフト1位でダイエー(現ソフトバンク)に入団。プロ初出場の試合で満塁ホームランを打つ鮮烈なデビューを飾り、王貞治監督のもとで長距離バッターの才能を開花。また、盗塁王を2度獲得するなど走攻守三拍子そろった選手として活躍した

2005年からは大リーグでプレーし、同年はホワイトソックスで88年ぶりのワールドシリーズ制覇も経験。08年までフィリーズ、パドレス、フィリーズに在籍した

09年に日本球界に復帰し、ロッテに入団した。13年には史上5人目となる日米通算2000本安打を達成した

日本球界での通算成績は20日現在で、1885試合、打率.271、1749安打、250本塁打、1010打点、176盗塁。今季も先発で4番を打つなど開幕から1軍で活躍し、35試合出場で打率2割5分7厘、1本塁打、8打点だった。日本球界で盗塁王2回、セカンドでベストナイン3回、ゴールデン・グラブ賞に3回輝いている
