オバマ米大統領は18日、緊迫するイラク情勢への対応を米議会指導部と協議した。米議会では、イスラム武装勢力の制圧に向けた指導力が不足しているとしてイラクのマリキ首相に辞任を促すよう求める声が強まっている。

[ワシントン 18日 ロイター] - オバマ米大統領は18日、緊迫するイラク情勢への対応を米議会指導部と協議した。米議会では、イスラム武装勢力の制圧に向けた指導力が不足しているとしてイラクのマリキ首相に辞任を促すよう求める声が強まっている。

米軍制服組トップのデンプシー統合参謀本部議長は、イラク北部で勢力を広げるイスラム教スンニ派の武装勢力に対抗するため、マリキ政権が米空軍の支援を要請したことを議会公聴会で明らかにした。

デンプシー統合参謀本部議長は米国がその要請に応じるかどうかには言及しなかったものの、米国側がイラクに対する空爆の決定を急いでいないことを示唆した。

ホワイトハウスによると、オバマ大統領は、イラクの指導部が「派閥間での問題をいったん脇に置く」ことができるような取り組みを議員に説明。治安改善を支援するためのオプションを見直し、議員らに意見を求めたという。

米政府高官によると、オバマ大統領は今後の流れを打ち出しておらず、最終的な決定もまだ下されていない。

バイデン米副大統領は18日、マリキ首相らイラク指導部と相次いで電話会談し、イスラム教スンニ派の過激派組織「イラク・レバントのイスラム国(ISIL)」など武装集団による攻撃に対して結束するよう呼びかけた。また、あらゆる宗派や民族が参加する政府の樹立を求めた。

ホワイトハウスの声明によると、バイデン米副大統領はマリキ首相のほか、スンニ派のナジャフィ連邦議会議長、クルド自治政府のバルザニ議長ら3人と個別に会談した。
