世界エイズデー（12月1日）を記念して情報番組「エンターテイメント・トゥナイト」にスーパーモデルで作家のキャシー・アイアランドが出演し、女優のエリザベス・テイラーについて語った。

エリザベス・テイラーはHIV陽性患者支援活動に積極的に取り組んだことで知られる。1991年には「エリザベス・テイラーエイズ財団」を設立し、法の目をかいくぐって患者に試験薬を届ける地下ネットワークを作った。アイアランドはテイラーの活動について次のように語っている。

「カリフォルニアの高級住宅地ベル エアにあったテイラーの家は、試験薬を患者に届けるための隠れ家になっていました。活動の多くは非合法でしたが、多くの命が救われました。しかし当時はそういう活動があまり認められない時代で、仲間たちからは『そんなことに手を出すな』と言われていました」

「テイラーは殺害脅迫も受けていました。友人たちは、協力を求める彼女の電話を切っていました。だけど私は彼女の勇気をとても尊敬しています」

アイアランドは最近HIV陽性であることを公表したチャーリー・シーンについても触れ「シーンを含め、HIV陽性の人たちことを考えると胸が張り裂けそうです。状況が良くなることを心から祈っています」と話した。
