[クアラルンプール 30日 ロイター] - マレーシアのマハティール元首相(90)は30日、スキャンダルの渦中にあるナジブ現首相の退陣を求めるデモ活動に参加し、「民衆の力」を結集しようと呼び掛けた。

かつてはナジブ首相を支持していたマハティール氏はデモ参加に先立ち、メディアに対し「彼(首相)を退陣させるため、民衆の力を示さなければならない。国民全体はこうした腐敗指導者を望んでいない」と述べた。

警察当局によると、この日のデモの参加者数は推計で2万5000人に上った。

一方、ニュー・ストレーツ・タイムズ紙(電子版)によると、アハマド・ザヒド・ハミディ副首相は「法律を犯すのなら相応の結果を受け入れなければならない」と述べ、デモの主催者が法的な責任を問われる可能性があると警告した。
