ミハエル・シューマッハは生きるために「今も闘っています」。FIA(国際自動車連盟)会長のジャン・トッドはそう話した。

その伝説のF1レーサーは22カ月前、フランス・アルプスでスキー事故に遭い、脳に深刻な損傷を受けた。

トッドはフェラーリのシューマッハ・チームの上司で、7度の世界チャンピオンになった彼と友達でもある。トッドは今も、定期的にシューマッハに会いに行っている。

シューマッハは、深刻な脳損傷を受けたスキー事故の22カ月後の今でも、まだ闘病しているとされる

シューマッハは14カ月前に退院し、スイス・ローザンヌの自宅で看護を受けている。退院してからは、彼の状態や回復状況についての情報はほとんど報じられていない。

10月末、メキシコグランプリを前にした記者会見で、トッドはシューマッハの直近の状況を明かした。

「私はとても頻繁にミハエルに会っています。彼は今も闘っています」。イギリス紙「ミラー・オンライン」にトッドの話が引用された。

「ミハエルは親しい友人で、彼の家族とも親しくしています。私たちは、ミハエルを、家族とともに戦い続けさせなければいけません」と、トッドは続けた。さらに、シューマッハの事故が、グランプリで91回勝ったという彼の功績に影を落とすものであってはならないと述べた。

「先週は、ルイス・ハミルトンが3度目のタイトルを獲ったことを興味深く思いました」とトッドは述べた。「みなさんは、(シューマッハが7度のチャンピオンに輝いた)その数字を目の当たりにしました。私は、ミハエルが成し遂げた事をとても誇りに思いました。みなさんは時々、彼の達成したことを忘れがちになります」。

フェラーリの元技術チーフ、ロス・ブラウンは先週、シューマッハには「まだ希望が」あると語った。ブラウンは、元チームメイトのシューマッハを今も訪れ、見舞っていると述べた。また、シューマッハの妻コリーナも、近況を伝えるためブラウンに連絡しているのだと語った。

ブラウンは「私たちは、ミハエルが回復して復帰できるよう、毎日ただ祈り続けるだけです。ゆっくりなのかもしれませんが、希望は持ち続けています」と話した。
