共和党が上下両院で勝利 オバマ民主は惨敗【アメリカ中間選挙】

アメリカ中間選挙について、地元主要メディアは、野党・共和党が下院に加えて上院でも8年ぶりに過半数を確保することが確実になったと報じた。

アメリカ中間選挙について、ニューヨーク・タイムズなど地元主要メディアは10月4日(日本時間5日)、野党・共和党が下院に加えて上院でも8年ぶりに過半数を確保することが確実になったと報じた。オバマ大統領の与党・民主党は惨敗した。

共和党は下院(定数435)で過半数維持を確実にしたほか、上院(100議席)で現有45議席を上回る51議席をすでに獲得した。毎日新聞は「共和党が今後、議会で攻勢を強めるのは確実で、オバマ政権との対立が激化するのは必至だ」として次の通り報じている。

共和党は持論の減税など経済成長策の実施を求める一方、医療保険制度改革(オバマケア)の廃止を迫る構えだ。しかし、オバマ大統領も根本理念で譲れない政策には拒否権を行使する見通しで、政策実現に向けて大統領令の連発など議会を迂回(うかい)する姿勢を鮮明にすれば、両者の緊張が高まりそうだ。

上院共和党トップのミッチ・マコネル院内総務は、ケンタッキー州上院選で当選を確実にした4日夜、支持者を前に演説し、選挙戦を「人々にもう信用されなくなった政府が問われた選挙だった」と総括した上で、「今からこの国の方向を変えるためのレースが始まる」と語った
