男性たちはドイツのアンゲラ・メルケル首相の写真を掲げ、ある少年はEUの旗を身にまとってカメラに笑顔を向けた。

ドイツは、ハンガリーとオーストリアを通過してきた約1万人の難民を受け入れる見込みだ。

BBCによると、地元の人たちが列車から降りた難民たちに甘いものを振る舞い、到着を歓迎した。

8月末、ブタペスト・ケレティ駅で難民が列車に乗ろうと大挙して押しかけたのをハンガリー当局が妨害し、抗議する難民たちで混乱していた光景と大きく様変わりした。この騒動で、1人の男性が死亡している。

ハンガリーは、シリアやイラク、アフガニスタンからやって来た大量の難民が抵抗する事態に見まわれた。当初は移動を認めず、政府が運営する難民避難所を開いて難民たちを収容すると表明していたが、その後方針を軟化させ、移動を認めた。

難民たちは8月31日に、ブタペスト・ケレティ駅近くまで高速道路を歩き、駅周辺の路上で夜を明かした。

ブタペスト近郊のビケチ駅では、数百人の難民が、難民キャンプへと移送しようとして列車に乗るのを妨害した警察の警戒線を突破し、ヨーロッパ西部に向かった。

メルケル首相は「ドイツは増税することなく亡命希望者の流入を受け入れる余地があり、難民危機は政府にとって最優先すべき問題だ」と述べた。

「政治亡命の権利は、亡命希望者の数で制限を設けてはならない」と、メルケル首相はドイツ紙の取材陣に答えた

また、メルケル首相は「私たちの手で成長させてきた強力で、経済的に健全な国として必要なことだ」と述べ、全ての亡命希望者に公平な聴取を行うと表明した。

「増税はしません。そして、新たな債務を作ることなくバランスのとれた財政を維持するという目標に変わりはない」とメルケル首相は述べた。

ミュンヘンに到着した難民の多くはトルコの難民キャンプで数カ月過ごし、ボートや列車、そして徒歩でギリシャやバルカン諸国に移動し、ハンガリー南部の国境に敷かれた鉄条網をかいくぐってきた。
