インドネシア当局は30日、28日早朝に同国上空で消息を絶ったエアアジア機の残骸の一部をボルネオ島の沖合いで回収、遺体も収容した。

エアアジア8501便(エアバスA320-200型機)は乗客乗員162人を乗せてインドネシアのスラバヤを発ってシンガポールへ向かう途中、28日朝に管制塔との交信が途絶えた。

インドネシア海軍報道官はこの日、ロイターに対し、海上から40人の遺体を収容したことを明らかにしたが、その後、インドネシア捜索救助庁のスリスティヨ長官の話として、回収された遺体は3体にとどまると報道されるなど、情報は錯綜している。

海軍の報道官によると、機体のドアと酸素タンクが収容された。スリスティヨ長官は記者団に対し、波の高さが3メートルもあるなかでの作業は困難を極めており、夜通しで作業が行われる可能性があると述べた。生存者がいるかどうかとの質問には答えなかった。

捜索活動にはインドネシアのほか、オーストラリア、マレーシア、シンガポール、韓国、米国が参加。現場海域には約30隻の船舶に加え、21機の航空機が投入され捜索にあたった。

飛行状況を記録したフライトレコーダーはまだ発見されていない。

テレビではこの日、遺体が海上に浮かんでいる写真が映し出された。スラバヤには、搭乗者の家族らが集まっており、不安な様子を隠せず、中には涙を流す人もいた。

インドネシアの地元メディア、コンパス・ドット・コムによると、空軍当局者は、ジャワ海上で機体の一部とみられる物体の近くに遺体のようなものと荷物、ライフジャケットが見えたことを明らかにした。
