9月から発売されるシングルモルトウイスキーの新商品「シングルモルト余市」(左)と「シングルモルト宮城峡」=アサヒビール
アサヒビールは6月15日、傘下のニッカウヰスキーの主力ブランド「余市」「宮城峡」について、9月からは熟成年数を示さない「ノンエイジ」商品のみにすると発表した。ニッカ創業者の竹鶴政孝をモデルにしたテレビドラマの影響で販売が伸び、原酒づくりが追いつかないためという。朝日新聞デジタルなど報じた。
「余市」は北海道余市町で、「宮城峡」は仙台市でそれぞれ蒸留している原酒だけを使うシングルモルトウイスキーで、これまでは「余市10年」「宮城峡12年」など熟成年数を明示してきた。いっぽう、「竹鶴」ブランドは二つの蒸留所の原酒をブレンドしてつくる。「余市」「宮城峡」の商品を集約し、浮いた原酒を「竹鶴」にまわす。
「竹鶴」の今年1~5月の販売量は昨年の同じ時期に比べて3・1倍、「余市」と「宮城峡」の合計は2・6倍に増えた。ウイスキーは原酒の熟成に10年以上かかることが多いため、売り上げが急増しても、すぐに生産を増やすのがむずかしい。

新商品の価格はオープンだが、「シングルモルト余市」「シングルモルト宮城峡」ともに、参考小売価格は700ミリリットル入りで税別4200円。2銘柄合計で9月からの1年間で3万4千箱(1箱は700ミリリットル入り12本換算)の販売を計画している。
