ニューヨーク・タイムズが謝罪文 インド火星探査の漫画が「人種差別」と抗議受け

アメリカのニューヨーク・タイムズ紙は10月6日、掲載したインドの火星探査成功を扱った漫画に抗議があったとして、Facebook上で謝罪した。

アメリカのニューヨーク・タイムズ紙は10月6日、9月28日に掲載したインドの火星探査成功を扱った漫画について「インド人をバカにしている」と大量の抗議があったため、Facebook上で編集担当者の謝罪文を掲載した。

冒頭に掲載した漫画は、「エリート宇宙クラブ」と書かれた部屋で欧米人らしい男性2人がインドの火星探査機の火星周回軌道入り成功を伝える新聞を読んでいるところ、牛を連れたインド人の男性がドアをノックしている場面を描いたもの。

同紙は編集担当者は「漫画の作者は、宇宙開発がもはや欧米諸国だけのものではないことを強調したものだった。この漫画で不快感を覚えた読者におわびする。インド政府や国民を傷つけるつもりはなかった」と謝罪している。

産経ニュースによると、漫画についてはネット上で「インドの科学者は牛を連れて歩き回ったりしない」「人種差別だ」といった批判が相次いでいたという。

Facebookの謝罪コメントに対して、「紙面におわびを掲載すべきだ」と同紙の対応を批判する意見も寄せられている。
