ソチ・オリンピックのフィギュアスケート男子ショートプログラムを直前に棄権して引退を表明したエフゲニー・プルシェンコ（31）＝ロシア＝が2月18日、ロシアのテレビ番組に出演し、2018年平昌オリンピックに挑戦する可能性もあると発言した。スポニチは次の通り報じている。
この日は 「たとえ10回以上手術をしてでも、完璧に回復したい。何シーズンか休み、何種類かの4回転ジャンプを覚えて復帰したい」と語り「5度目の五輪の可能性を排除していない」と意欲を示した。

プルシェンコは、これまでも引退を発表しては復帰することを繰り返していた。さて、今度も再度の復活となるのだろうか。
プルシェンコは2006年トリノ大会後にも引退を発表していたが、2008年に復帰し、2010年バンクーバー五輪で銀メダルを獲得。その後、2回目の引退を決断したが、地元ソチ大会に出場するために再び復帰し、波紋を呼びながらも代表の座を手にした。

トリノ・オリンピックの金メダリストのプルシェンコは、ソチ五輪で初めて実施された団体で母国の優勝に貢献。しかし、腰の痛みを訴えて個人種目を棄権した。「フィギュア人生の終わりだと思う。競技人生の終わりでいい演技をしたかった」と引退を表明していた。
