Ingo Steuer, who now is the coach of German figure skating medal hopes Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy, was removed by the committee the squad on 26 January, just 15 days before the 2006 Turin winter Olympics start, after an investigation found him to have had connections with the Stasi, the East German secret police before reunification with the west. In a dramatic u-turn controversial he can now travel to the Olympics, due to start on 10 February 2006, after a Berlin court ruled 06 February that he had been unfairly treated by the German Olympic Committee.
