ソチオリンピックで2月12日、スノーボードの女子ハーフパイプ決勝が行われ、日本の岡田良菜（おかだ・らな）が5位になった。オリンピックの同種目では、日本人の史上最高位だ。
スノーボードのハーフパイプは、半円筒形のコースを滑りながら「エア」と呼ばれる空中での演技をして、高さと技の難度を競うという物。2回滑って良い方の得点が採用される。岡田は1回目は転倒して点数が伸びなかったものの、2回目では確実に高いジャンプを決めて、85.50点と高得点を記録した。優勝はケイトリン・ファリントン（アメリカ）だった。
