南米最大の真夏の祭典、ブラジルの「リオのカーニバル」は2月26、27日の2晩、市中心部のメイン会場「サンボドロモ」でトップチームによるパレードがあり、計12チームが徹夜でサンバを踊りながら美しさや華麗さを競った。
時事ドットコムは次のように伝えた。
巨大な山車やきらびやかな衣装は、職人が約８カ月かけて制作した。３０００人から５０００人で構成される各チームのメンバーは、大歓声の中で華麗なステップを披露。小雨がぱらつく中、花火の号砲とともに、音楽と踊りに包まれた会場の７００メートルを７５分かけてゆっくりと行進した。（中略）
２８日朝方まで続くパレードには計１２チームが出場。リオ市によると、南米最大の真夏の祭典には期間中、国内外から約１１０万人の観光客が見込まれている。
